Designer Mesh Door Panel Application.

Case Study | Shelter for The Storms

McNICHOLS partnered with Amy Storm & Co. to provide custom metal features for their Shelter for the Storms project. Amy incorporated McNICHOLS® Specialty Metals into various applications. Accordingly, the products included curved Square Perforated shelving, Wire and Designer Mesh door panels, and Perforated Metal cabinet inserts.

For instance, one of the most distinctive aspects of this project is the use of the Designer Mesh, specifically SHIRE™ 8148, in the laundry room sliding door. Providing just the right amount of privacy a laundry room needs, this application elevates a basic side room while keeping grand aesthetics in mind.

A Wire Mesh Solution

Another use case of McNICHOLS® Specialty Metals door panels occurs in the Wire Mesh pantry door. With a more industrial appeal, the material features a Lock Crimp Weave, powder coated in a gunmetal color to blend with the surrounding interior fixtures. This style yields a 79% Open Area to allow an open-concept feel while still sectioning off the space with a decorative yet functional enclosure.

Speaking to the function and versatility of Wire Mesh, this statement door was fabricated on a pivot. For that reason, it provided convenience and ease of use for the hustle and bustle of your everyday kitchen scene.

"I think this is super cool because it’s industrial… The most fun part of it is it’s a pivot door, so it can go both ways." - Amy Storm

Square Perforated Shelving in Shelter for The Storms

Squared-Hole Shelving

Lastly, a noteworthy application of McNICHOLS® Square Perforated Metal is the floating shelves. Cut-to-size, powder-coated, and fabricated for a custom fit, the shelving adds to the modern industrial approach.

It’s not your average shelving. On top of the supportive strength of the Carbon Steel material, the Square Perforated Hole Pattern lets in natural light with a unique shadow effect. It also helped vary the surface profile of the space and maintain a sleek, bold appearance.

"It’s letting light through, giving us a place to put our plants, and then just adding a lot of texture into the space, and I absolutely love it." - Amy Storm

By incorporating these applications into Amy’s home, McNICHOLS® Specialty Metals created a visually compelling aesthetic. These additions uphold the endurance and functionality of our Perforated Metal and Wire Mesh product lines.
