Colorful Grating Becomes New York City Art Feature

McNICHOLS® Bar Grating and Fiberglass Grating featured in Madison Square Park Conservancy as part of a colorful grating art feature.

The Hole Objective

Every year, the Madison Square Park Conservancy in New York features the works of many talented artists. One particular artist, Jessica Stockholder, envisioned a colorful walking surface made with different forms of Grating.

The Hole Solution

Jessica selected McNICHOLS® Swage-Locked Bar Grating and Molded Fiberglass Grating to fill the park with a rainbow of colors. Each section of Grating, except yellow, was painted a vibrant color and then fit together in an intricate pattern. The pieces were then anchored into a 1,300 square-foot triangular-shaped platform at the north end of the park's Oval Lawn. The custom-fabricated Aluminum Swage-Locked Bar Grating and Fiberglass Grating panels were lightweight, making them easy to handle. The Gratings were also weather-resistant and required minimal maintenance. That year, thousands of visitors enjoyed the colorful stroll through the park.

Multiple Gratings and colors combined as part of an art display.
