Product Information
Mat grating is intended to be installed, so that the grating cross bars rest on the bottom of the recess. When properly installed, Mat grating is supported across its entire width and length, eliminating any substantive deflection of the grating. This allows mat grating to be typically lighter in weight and lower in cost than Pit grating.
In contrast, Pit grating is only supported by a ledge built around the outer edges of the recess, similar to a trench application. Since Pit grating is not fully supported, it requires higher load carrying capacity than Mat grating for comparable widths and lengths.
An available frame can simplify construction of the recess. It allows for perfect sizing of the recess dimensions and forms the ledge on which Pit grating can be supported. When the grating is installed in the recess, there will be an opening along the outer edges where the grating and recess meet. A optional one-inch flange can also be ordered to cover this opening.
