Lineal Inch - the measure of inches in a straight line.

Line Wire (wire cloth) - The wire in wire cloth that runs parallel to the length (i.e., the long side of the roll or sheet) (same as warp wire) - Opposite of cross wire.

Load - The amount of weight, measured in pounds per square foot, that the grating will support. There are two types of load measurements: point and whole bar.

Load Carrying Band - A band used in a cutout to transfer the load from unsupported bearing bars in the cutout to the supported bearing bears.

LWO - (Long Way of Opening) Distance across the long opening of the diamond from a point on the inside of the bond to a corresponding inside point of the next bond.

M

Machine Run to Size - Expanded metal as it comes off of the press with closed diamond edges.

Mesh (expanded metal) - This is the nominal distance from the mid-point of one bond in expanded metal to the mid-point of the next bond measured across the SWD. Mesh is expressed in inches.

N

No-seeums - Approximately 700 species of tiny, malicious pests that tend to gather in a cloud over your head — also known as gnats, punkies, and midges. They prefer damp places, calm, humid days, and are more active at twilight and early evening. They are strongly attracted to artificial light. No-seeums require insect screen of at least 20 mesh or smaller.

O

Opening Size (expanded metal) - The area in expanded metal enclosed by bonds and strands.
