McNICHOLS has been a member of the Metal Service Center Institute (MSCI) since the 1960’s. In May of 2000 CEO and owner of McNICHOLS, Gene McNichols, served a two-year term as Chairman of the MSCI.
History of the MSCI
The MSCI was founded in 1907 as the American Iron, Steel and Heavy Hardware Association. In 1934, it became the American Steel Warehouse Association, and in 1959 became the Steel Service Center Institute (SSCI). In 1993, the SSCI and the Canadian Steel Service Center Institute integrated. In February of 2002, the name was changed to the Metal Service Center Institute (MSCI) and currently has about 400 service center member companies operating 1,100 branches in North America.

The Role of a Service Center
Service Centers link steel mills and manufacturers, who offer various metal formations (sheets, coil, tube) in specific sizes and grades to end users. Service centers add value by stocking metals and processing them to specific sizes, shapes and strengths making them readily available for the end user.
