When Seattle's Roosevelt High School prepared to add a new auditorium as part of a major renovation, designers aimed for simplicity and elegance. They also looked for a way to conceal theater equipment with dramatic flair.

They found their answers by choosing McNICHOLS® Wire Mesh. The square woven, 18 x 18 mesh, 0.017" thick (27-1/4 gauge) wire diameter material provides flexibility, light diffusion, sound redistribution and glittery good looks as it hides can-lights, catwalks and other equipment behind a metallic shimmer.

The metal color, combined with green checkered walls, echo the school’s official colors of gold and green.

Wire Mesh enhances acoustics, light, safety and comfort throughout the 750-seat theater. Completed in 2006, the auditorium mimics the school's original, circa-1922 architecture. The volute — or scroll-like — shapes play on neoclassical style. The transparent, pliable material proved to be easy to shape, mount and suspend during installation. The result is a state-of-the-art theater experience that is aesthetically pleasing and full of enjoyment.
