Case Study | Kauffman Stadium

McNICHOLS® Perforated Metal
McNICHOLS® Perforated Metal

When the Kansas City Royals set out to improve the fan experience at Kauffman Stadium, McNICHOLS provided the products to support the effort.

The baseball venue, which originally debuted in 1973, was due for an upgrade. Planners set out to add modern design features and amenities to the stadium, which had become dated over time.

Following a major renovation, the stadium reopened in 2009 with a dramatic McNICHOLS® Perforated Metal and glass curtain wall measuring 345 feet wide by 52 feet high.

The facade features Perforated Metal sheets cut in 50 sizes. The transparent, reflective Perforated Metal skin infuses the concourse area with sunlight and air and helps protect it from inclement weather. While the product offers shelter to people inside, it allows them to see outside.

The Perforated Metal sheets were cut to varying sizes to fit Aluminum channels intended to support the Perforated Metal and glass panels.

Thirty-five years after the stadium first opened, it unveiled a modern, sophisticated new look and feel designed to exceed the expectations of baseball fans in the 21st Century.
